Katie Couric wins a Governor’s Award career
Katie Couric March 30, 2009
Television’s biggest top prize for excellence is the Emmy Award, and the 52nd annual local edition occurs Sunday night, March 29. For Katie Couric, she knows she’ll walk away with the biggest honor of the night.
The CBS Evening News anchor will be awarded with the Governor’s Award for her more than 25-year broadcasting career.
The 52-year-old Couric made the much-publicized jump from NBC to CBS in 2006. When the jump was complete she became the first solo anchor of a weeknight evening newscast at one of the “Big Three” networks.

After initially struggling to find her audience, All Access.com reports Couric has made gains in New York over the past six months. During that time her broadcast has eclipsed NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams in household ratings and the much-coveted 25-54 demographic. Couric’s newscast is the only one with increases from a year ago in the New York market.
World News with Charles Gibson is far and away tops among New York viewers, thanks in part to a strong lead-in by WABC/Channel 7. It consistently beats Evening News and Nightly News in New York.
Couric had 17 years at NBC, including the last 15 co-anchoring on the highly-successful Today Show.
