Madonna can adopt Mercy
15 junio 2009 Posted in MadonnaA pair of African courts have granted Madonna Mercy.
The Material Mom’s lawyer says two appeals court judges in Malawi will allow her to adopt 4-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James after all.
The judges in the east African nation have been persuaded to reverse their decision barring Madonna from adopting a child, and a third jurist is about to cave in, lawyer Alan Chinula told the London Daily Mail.
The official ruling will be announced Sunday at Malawi’s Supreme Court of Appeal.
The move would clear the way for the 50-year-old pop star to get a sister for her son David, whom she adopted in Malawi in 2006, skirting the 18-month residency requirement.

It was that requirement that the three judges cited when they originally ruled against Mercy’s adoption.
“A person is not entitled to claim to be a resident of a given town simply because he pays a short, temporary visit,” Judge Esmie Chombo ruled at the time. “Some expectation of continuity is a vital factor.”
Madonna’s lifestyle — including her divorce last year from British film director Guy Ritchie and reunion with former boy toy Jesus Luz, a model 28 years her junior — also influenced the ban on adopting Chifundo, whose name means “Mercy” in English.
In an attempt to polish her tarnished image, Madonna has poured thousands of dollars into building a day care center in Malawi. The government has called her a worthy mother and supports a ruling allowing her to adopt.
